Plein Air Artists Start Blogging to Create Greater Visibility

Plein Air Painters of the
Mid-Atlantic

Check out Plein Air Painters Mid-Atlantic Group FB Page

A few of our many artists!

The Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic, a group of adult artists, paint outdoors at scheduled weekly sessions
focusing on historic sites, landscapes and unique locations within the Mid-Atlantic region.

A group of casual, but serious, adult "en plein air" artists. Membership is based on the desire to paint during scheduled plein air painting group sessions. Weekly sessions are planned from April through October each year. Members will receive weekly event invitations with details.

We do restrict the group to adult artists. There is no participation fee. Instruction is not provided. It is not mandatory that members paint at each weekly session. Others who may want to tag along should email PleinAirPaintersMidAtlantic@groups.facebook.com in advance.

2013 Painting Theme: Delaware History Trail Passport Locations.
We will included other regional locations as well.  (See www.visitdelaware.com/delaware-history-trail/.  Delaware's History Trail and Passport locations was a great template to use to coordinate painting sessions in all 3 counties. It was a fresh theme artists could relate to, be challenged with and look forward to. We choose almost 30 of the 36 passport locations for painting sessions. Many artists had never had the opportunity to visit these sites and were excited to visit and paint them.  Painting Delaware's history and heritage was a rewarding experience and our "artists journey."  All persons (artists or not) can receive the "Landmarks and Legacies" book through Delaware Tourism, after completing the trail.

2014 Painting Theme: Delaware Byways & Other Treasures
We will be painting a few locations within all of Delaware's Byways:  Red Clay Valley, Brandywine Valley Scenic, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad, Rt. 9 Coastal Heritage, Western Sussex and Lewes Byways. (See http://byways.deldot.gov) In addition a few favorite Delaware Treasures;  Georgetown Circle, Bethany Beach Nature Center, Odessa Historic District and Lavender Fields near Milton.  These locations are fascination treasures along Delaware's Byways which we may pass by regularly and may not have an opportunity to discover and enjoy them.

Having a theme or grid to use to plan weekly sessions, provides a long range goal for an exhibit, and a body of work and audience can relate to.
